Is Hulu available in the UK? Well, not officially but there is a way to watch Hulu in the UK. Our simple solution will show you how.

But first, why isn’t Hulu available in the UK? Hulu, and other streaming media services like Netflix, have to pay license fees for each country they show their content in.

Currently Hulu is only available in the USA and haven’t taken the leap to extend their services to the UK or any other countries.

They block their service in the UK to satisfy their licensing obligations. That’s why if you try to access Hulu in the UK you see this message.

Well that sucks. The simple solution we’ll explain below will help you get around this.

Once you’ve got it set up this same solution will also give you access to loads of other sites that are blocked in the UK.

So how can I watch Hulu in the UK?

It turns out you can get Hulu in the UK even though they block it. Getting Hulu unblocked is basically a two step solution:

1. 1. Sign up for the Smart DNS free trial and make it look like you’re accessing Hulu from the USA.
   2. Use a payment method that Hulu will accept.

These two steps are pretty easy. Here are the step by step instructions showing how we do it.

Unblock Hulu UK With Smart DNS

Let’s handle the first step. The IP address of your router or device you’re using to access the internet also identifies the country you’re in. When you try to access the Hulu website their servers see your IP address, realise that you’re in the UK, and block you.

We need to make our IP address appear to be one within the US range of IP addresses. We recommend either using the Smart DNS solution we describe below or a really fast VPN service.

If you’re connected via a VPN then all your internet traffic, not just the Hulu streaming, goes through the VPN. It can seriously slow down your internet access unless you’re using one of the best VPN’s for Hulu.

Also, some services claim to be the best UK VPN service but they’re really just a cheap proxy site. Hulu have cracked down on people trying to access Hulu via cheap proxies and often these services don’t work.

A much better solution is to use a smart DNS. This still makes it look like you’re accessing Hulu from the US without routing all your traffic via a VPN. To do this you first need to sign up for the free trial.

The Smart DNS Proxy free trial lasts for two weeks and after that, if you want to keep using it, you can choose to pay a monthly fee of $4.95 per month or one of their longer term plans.

Once you’ve signed up for the trial you need to go to the Smart DNS website and login to your account. Once you’ve done that you need to make a small change to the DNS settings in your router.

It’s really easy to do. Simply go to the “How To Setup” page on the Smart DNS website, select your device or operating system and then click “Setup”. Now you’ll see step by step instructions on how to make the DNS changes.

Probably the best way to do this is to make the changes on your router. If you do the changes on your router then all the devices connecting to the internet via that router will be able to access Hulu without having to make changes on individual devices.

Once you’ve followed the instructions you should have added one of the Smart DNS server IP addresses to your router.

Now head over to the “My Account” page on the Smart DNS website. You will see a page like the image below.

What we want to see is 4 green ticks that will indicate that we’ve got everything setup correctly.

If you see that the third line doesn’t have a green tick next to it you’ll need to click where it says “Activate”.

If you see 4 green ticks then we’re halfway there. Head over to hulu.com and sign up for the free trial.

Now you won’t see the message saying that Hulu is blocked in your country but you’ll be able to access Hulu as if you were in the US.

While signing up for Hulu you’ll need to add a payment method. The Smart DNS solution is only to get around the IP address issue.

You’ll still need to pay your monthly Hulu subscription.

To further block people from accessing Hulu outside the USA, Hulu have also blocked credit cards and even Paypal accounts from certain countries.

Try using your UK credit card or Paypal account and see if it gets accepted.

Did it work? Great! No need to read any further. Enjoy watching Hulu UK while your mates are still trying to figure out how to watch their favorite shows online.

If not then you may see a message that says: “Sorry, we cannot process your order at this time.”.

If you see that message it means that Hulu won’t accept your UK payment method.

No problem. We just move on to step 2 in our Hulu UK solution.

How to Pay For Hulu In UK

If the Hulu website didn’t accept your payment method (credit card or Paypal) then we’ll need to try something else.

Your best, and easiest, option is to use a Hulu gift card. If you head on over to the Walmart online store you can buy one here.

The gift card is delivered via email so you’ll have it immediately.

Once you’ve got it, complete the Hulu signup procedure by using the gift card as the payment method.

You should now have an active Hulu account and you’ll be able to watch Hulu in the UK, South Africa, or anywhere else really.

As long as you’re also using the Smart DNS solution we described above, that is.

Once you’ve got your Hulu account setup you can go into the billing section and try to add your credit card as a payment method.

It seems that they often only check where the card is coming from during the signup process so it may work now even though it didn’t before.

If you don’t want to use the Hulu gift card option you could also sign up for an American Paypal account. This is a little trickier but not that difficult.

First we need to use a VPN service. Lucky for us, Smart DNS Proxy gives you a free VPN service as part of your package.

Follow their instructions on how to setup the VPN and then connect to one of the American VPN servers.

Head on over to the Paypal website and sign up for a new account using an email address and credit card that aren’t already associated with your UK Paypal account.

Once you’ve done that you can disconnect from the VPN and head back over to the Hulu website.

Now you can complete the signup process using your new American Paypal account info.

If you’ve followed all of these steps you will be able to watch Hulu UK the way it should have been ages ago.

In addition to this, you will also be able to watch American Netflix in the UK now too. Even with your current Netflix subscription.

When will Hulu launch in the UK? Probably not anytime soon. Even if they were planning to launch here the whole Brexit mess will have put those plans on the back-burner for now.
